In 1975, five friends from the Dutch town of Sassenheim started a carnival band. Initially they just wanted to play in bars and at the Dutch carnival but in 1986 they decided to go to the ‘Eleven City Tour’’, the most legendary ice skating event in the Netherlands (the equivalent of the super bowl, the whole country watches this). They just drove up there, picked a little bridge to set up, unpacked their instruments and started playing. Soon enough the crowd went crazy, the news camera’s pointed to them and the legend was born. Since they started playing about 40 years ago, they’ve kept football hooligans from fighting, they’ve been invited to come along with government officials, they’ve played in over 32 countries and haven’t missed a Winter Olympic Games 1998.
Some of the members (15 altogether) have been friends for 40 years and the band has provided some of the best adventures of their lives. Their goals are to never skip an Olympic event so their eyes are on PeyongChang 2018.
