Orangutan Tungka and OFI staff member Ibu Sandil share a special moment of intimacy and mutual understanding. In the wild, orangutan infants share an intense bond with their mothers for their first 8 or 9 years of life. OFI replicates this bond at our Care Center by assigning local caregivers as surrogate mothers to the infants until they reach juvenile age.
