Mike Rodgers WINS the Grenada Invitational! ___________ Last Saturday, April 8th, the world of Track and Field turned its attention to the first major meet of this season. The ‘Grenada Invitational’ this was the starting point for this year’s Track and Field elite athletes. The competition was held at the National Athletic Stadium in St. Georges’, Grenada and it had more than 120 international competitors from twenty-four different countries. ___________ The USATF team garnered great results on the beautiful Caribbean island. In the totality of twenty-two events, the elite American athletes captured eight first place positions, nine-second places and six finished in third rounding out the competition. ___________ Mike Rodgers, the 31-year-old professional US Sprinter crossed the threshold in a sizzling first place birthing a win in the 100 meters, besting the field with the top time in the entire competition, a blistering 10.17 seconds, at an impressive rate of 35.4 km/h. Rodgers highlighted “the importance of starting the season with great achievements” and his plans to “continue seeking victories this year. Grenada Invitational was step one and it is clear! This competition was important to get the feel for the season and I am very happy with the results. I am excited for what comes next!” explained Rodgers. ___________ On June, Mike Rodgers competes in the USATF Outdoor Championship, in Sacramento, California. “For this year this is my biggest goal: to get on the podium at the USA Championship so I also qualify for the World Championship, in August, in London”, -said Rodgers. When asked about the preparation for the next Olympic Games he says “that it is important to always have your goals set embedded in your mind and take one step at a time.” -Rodgers “I will keep working hard, training hard and taking care of my body and strengthening my mind.” -Rodgers Rodgers is one of the most promising names for the gold medal in Tokyo 2020. We will definitely be in that championship atmosphere to see Mike Rodgers make US history!
