From the May 4, 1959 animal feature—A CHILD-SIZED ZOO: San Diego lets kids join the animals. According to LIFE - "Everything at the Children's Zoo in San Diego, Calif. is scaled down for young spectators including the animals. The animals, which are young and playful and come from all over the world are allowed to roam about freely." This image ran with the following caption: "Delighted girl meets her first camel, 2-month-old Barney. Born in the zoo, Barney was deserted by his mother and put in children's section.
