•RESPECT THE REST NOTES•
When I was a kid playing classical piano, I used to always struggle with rushing through songs. One day, my exasperated piano teacher scolded me saying "YOU HAVE TO RESPECT THE REST NOTES." She went on to explain that the greatest composers (eg. Mozart and Beethoven) were so skillful in placing rest notes, the silences held more power and significance than the notes around them.

There was a certain point this year, when I tried to figure out what the highlights of my life thus far were--and you know what? They weren't what I thought they'd be. They weren't when I won my first tournament or when I got my tour card. Instead they were the quiet, seemingly insignificant moments in between all those. They were the times I woke up early and shared a cup of coffee with my parents. They were the minutes spent in the beach parking lot, changing out of my wetsuit and recounting the session's greatest wipeouts with friends. They were the 10 minutes before/after yoga, where I forged those lasting relationships with people I couldn't be more different from. They were (believe it or not) the long waits on tee boxes during practice rounds spent with my @lpga_tour buddies.
I love having this reminder to slow down and appreciate these pauses; because I think that in the end, those seemingly mundane moments will be our most treasured memories.
