Myrtle Simpson, the first woman to ski across Greenland, is presented with a Polar Medal from The Duke of Cambridge at today's Investiture.

Myrtle's husband, Hugh, also has a Polar Medal. This makes the couple only the second ever husband and wife to both be awarded the medal. The explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes and his late wife Virginia were the first.

Created as the Artic Medal in 1857 and renamed the Polar Medal in 1904, this honour is awarded to those who have made contributions to the knowledge of Polar Regions.
