During Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re partnering with @Instagram’s #HereForYou campaign to highlight people around the world using their accounts to break down stigmas surrounding mental health. Sydney (@theblackswandiaries) is a professional ballerina who spoke to us about using her Instagram as a tool to cope, and to help others struggling. “I share my journey so publicly because the thought of anyone suffering in silence — particularly young girls and young women of color — breaks my heart into a million pieces,” she says. “Knowing you're not alone, knowing you're not broken, that can be the difference between life and death. I'll be the first to admit, my identity makes me feel like a unicorn sometimes. I'm a Black Lesbian Christian, who also happens to be a professional ballerina. But I get DMs several times a week from young girls who share one or more of my identities — ballerina, LGBTQ, Black, Christian — who say they never had a role model that looked like them who shared their same specific struggles. I'm honored to be that for them, if they'll allow me." Tap the link in bio for more.
