Hi everyone. I am taking a moment to reflect on all that has happened during the last year. A year ago, my memoir, "In The Country We Love" #inthecountrywelove, was released. Sharing so much of my personal story was not the easiest thing I’ve ever done. I admit to feeling a little insecure after seeing so many private details between the book covers. But the reasons I wrote my memoir are even more important today than they were a year ago. I wanted to let young people know that they are not alone; that the community will support them if their family should become separated by deportations. This is even more important today, in the era of Trump, who has stoked a climate of fear for millions of immigrant families. To all of the many people who have come up to me during book signings, shared their stories, and thanked me for writing my book, I say back to you, “Thank you, for your courage; for coming out and fighting on behalf of our families. Don’t ever give up hope because our cause is right.” United, we will some day succeed in gaining dignity and justice for our families. #heretostay
