Fans of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, the Mexican-American singer who was murdered in 1995, have never stopped celebrating her life and music. Earlier this month, @emilyberl attended a #Selena fan gathering in Lincoln Park, near her home in Los Angeles, to see how the #Tejano music sensation was being remembered. The 32-year-old photographer has a fascination with fan culture and the groups that can build around it. “That kind of dedication is really interesting to me,” she said. “People working one way or another toward a common idea.” She photographed women — and a few men — from the LA area and beyond. Some of them said they’d been #Selena fans for most of their lives; some were just 3 years old. “It didn’t feel like people were competing to be the most accurate,” @emilyberl said. “It was people’s personal interpretations, or personal tributes. People were paying their respects.” Swipe left to see more photos.
