Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Moore wrote and directed the first documentary to debut at #1 on its opening weekend, "Fahrenheit 9/11". Despite being shown in just 868 screens the weekend of June 27, 2004, the hard-hitting R-rated political film beat the likes of "The Notebook" and "White Chicks" which also premiered that weekend (even though those two films were shown on over 2,300 screens each).
