More Moana this time, except it’s in a reverse style! For this method of quotation art, you write out your composition in pencil and then fill in the negative space with color. I used the same color combination I’ve often been using because they gel together so well – Blue and Green Moonlight Gelly Rolls and a Royal Blue #GellyRoll. You can leave all the words white or you can go through your composition, emphasizing words using color, accenting words or phrases, and adding texture to the background by layering ink with your Gelly Roll pens. Lately, I’ve been working on a series of pieces I call #AcrossTheSpine; all that’s required is the composition must cross the spine or seam of my sketchbook. It’s definitely not a revolutionary practice but it’s really helped me break out of a composition rut. If you try it out, be sure to tag me, @pbandjillian, so I can see your creations!
