My great Syrian grandpa and my great Armenian grandmother who met in Aleppo. I feel violently sick to my stomach. I hurt all over with the guilt of being over here. I feel violently sick that being American and being white grants you with the aloofness that you are not affected, so you don't need to care. I feel violently sick that I still have to prove to people that killing children mothers and fathers is bad. I feel violently sick and guilty that I could choose to be unaffected and to be uninvolved. I feel violently sick that we turn the other way/turn off the news/ turn over the paper/ and go back to our bubble. I feel violently sick at this country/this administration/ this subhuman pure evil that reasons massacring innocent people to defend the Great America: I feel violently sick that a great america is one that kills/one that bans/one that builds walls. I hope you understand that if you are trying to defend this you are defending the senseless death of children/mothers/daughters/fathers/brothers that could've been yours. I hope you know that silence is complacency and allows killings of innocent children/women/men. I hope every single person of Syrian descent hugs themselves tonight and allows themselves time to mourn. You can donate to @circleofhealth which funds the last remaining hospital in Aleppo which survives on $1400 a day. (The second picture is a poem by Syrian American poet Mohja Kahf)
