Guggenheim Abu Dhabi collection artist Mohammed Kazem (@mohammedkazem.1) uses everyday found objects and experiments with modern technology to both document his surroundings and capture his performances. In "Directions 2002", Kazem traveled to Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, a location he chose because it overlooks the Arabian Sea. He loaded wooden planks on a boat, inscribed with GPS coordinates from the mainland in addition to the date and time. The final work is comprised of a short video and six panels, including four photographs showing Kazem throwing the planks in the water and documenting them as they float by. The last panel is intentionally left blank to represent the open terrain that these planks could float toward. "Directions 2002" (2002), is on view as part of Guggenheim Abu Dhabi’s second collection show, "The Creative Act".
