Right after our first album was released, I remember playing a free show in upstate NY - so many people showed up that half of them were turned away. We wanted to go out in to the parking lot and play a few songs for the fans that couldn't get in, but the fire Marshall shut us down. So instead, we began walking up to the cars exiting the parking lot - we wanted to thank them for coming and apologize that they couldn't get in. The problem was, nobody recognized us. Half of the people we tried to say thank you to didn't want to open their window. It's funny to say, but for me that was a beautiful thing - because they connected with the music first. It wasn't some brand or image. Just the songs.
For me, with all the traveling we've done, and all the changes that have happened with the band, this 5 years has felt more dense. Almost like 10 years. From living rooms to arenas, it's a lot to wrap your head around. But it's still incredible to realize how much can happen in 5 short years thanks to a good album. Thank you for listening.
