Every year in memory of my lovely mom, Donna Jean Ford (maiden name since the other names couldn't live up), I write a birthday tribute.
Usually they're a stark reminder of how perseverance & drive overcome all obstacles. But not this post.
Today I'm gonna share a slightly different side of my mom, one that was as confidently emblazed as the hope fueled belief she instilled in me. "People suck." - Mom

She would probably say this once a week. She always meant it and it was often accompanied by the same little laugh I do when I say something onstage that is both true and harsh. "People suck."
My mother watched users, liars & scammers come in and out of our lives and when she couldn't use her secret power of instinct before they could pull their selfish bullshit she would acquiesce with, "People suck."
This was code for.. take it on the chin.. fuck'em.. go level up somewhere else. And remember that some people when you get there are gonna suck too.
It's a big spinning world with a lotta good people holding on for dear life, some trying to make something from nothing and others taking, taking, taking and never able to contribute more than pain in the head, heart or ass.
My mom was emotional. She could get sad, down, angry - she could fight the devil on a good day and get some solid hits in. I get all of it from her. I get my sleeve filled heart on the other side of my sword sheathed unstoppable nature from her.
You're right again mom, "people suck" but you didn't. You were one of the shiny shimmers when you saw this planet from space. I love you!! I love my mom!! Happy 77th birthday Donna!! I do what I do to celebrate you & show you every day how thankful I am because of your love & belief.
