A #LeopardSeal playfully opening its giant mouth near my camera dome, enjoying its own reflection in the mirrored glass. This was without a doubt one of the most memorable experiences I've ever had in the wild, and I owe it all to my good friend @paulnicklen. Days before this encounter Paul had instructed our expedition team "if you're in the water and a Leopard Seal approaches, just stay calm, their only curious. They generally open there mouths, blow air bubbles and if you're lucky, it will even try to feed you a penguin!" - 2 days later, while free diving side by side with Paul in the icy water, we were graced with this beautiful animal, a 10 foot long Leopard Seal. I remember looking over at Paul, making eye contact and seeing a huge smile on his snorkel filled mouth. As predicted, the animal calmly swam and danced around us curiously, blew bubbles and opened its mouth in front of our camera domes. It did bring a penguin, to Paul of course, and I got to watch live something I had read in @ナショナルジオグラフィック from Paul's 2006 Leopard Seal story so many years ago.
