Army Pfc. Desmond Doss received the Medal of Honor in October 1945 for his brave actions during the Battle of Okinawa. He was the first conscientious objector to receive this honor - he refused to carry a weapon or kill an enemy solider due to his religious beliefs, however he saved many lives on the front line.
