Over the years I have had several ups and downs with my mom. "Growing pains" for the both of us. There were months where we argued and then just didn't speak at all. We struggled with trying to find harmony between the two of us. But it's amazing what God's grace does. Through the difficult times in our relationship God was always there ready to mend it all. It was our hearts that had to be changed. We needed to be open and receiving of that grace. Now don't get me wrong. We still have our ups and downs... and I know we both think we are each crazy from time to time ??... but having that open heart to make the effort to listen and respect one another has made the world of a difference. God didn't say to love when you are loved or love when you get along with someone. He called us to LOVE ALWAYS. To have grace and to be forgiving. I can't even count how many times I have needed to be forgiven for things. We all need second and third and fortieth chances sometimes... but you never know when that grace you have shown someone will finally make the impact that they truly needed.
