“Being a Muslim girl means so much to me,” a teenager named Aya told photographer Kyna Uwaeme. Aya is one of the subjects in Uwaeme’s new photo series depicting the challenges, joys and misconceptions surrounding Muslim American girls. “I now know that there is nothing wrong with me, and that I am just as American as that white boy,” said Alishaba, another teenager featured in the series.
