To watch Trisha Brown dance was to watch an act of protest- against the ways women have been taught to move and to understand their bodies in motion. She choreographed a better world, more odd and elegant. I was lucky enough to know Trisha growing up and even when I was far too young to appreciate the abstract, her sheer force of creativity kept me in my seat on summer nights watching her company dance. I also remember seeing her lean down to tie her shoe on a walk to the the beach and my father saying "look at that, she doesn't even have to bend her knees. That's wild!" Wild indeed. RIP Trisha ❤
