One of the highlights of #GuggVisionaries, is Jackson Pollock's 1947 painting "Alchemy"—on view in the United States for the first time since 1969. The painting has undergone a major restoration, undertaken by the Guggenheim conservation team in collaboration with Italian conservators. An interesting observation made was that the canvas proved to be an unusual fabric: it has a repeating commercial block print of flowers in a vase with architectural motifs. The textile is similar to a tablecloth or curtain fabric of the time and to date, no other such fabric has been found as the support for a Pollock painting.
