The hills are alive with the sound of music. Yes, that is a mountain of skiers behind our stage. We are musicians, singers, and global messengers here to shine our light at the Special Olympics World Games 2017. In its 49th year, the @specialolympics is still unleashing the human spirit through the transformative power of sports. Here in Schladming, Austria, 3000 athletes from around the globe gather in these gorgeous hills for some friendly competition. I am thrilled to be lending my music to the opening ceremony. Songs like I’m Yours and I Won’t Give Up carry a similar torch of unity, acceptance, and endurance. It is an honor to align these songs with such a great cause. Joining me onstage is @gracevanderwaal, The Choir of Schladming’s Middle School 1, the 2018 class of International Global Messengers, and teachers of @sparcrichmond's Live Art program who choreographed the performance we will be broadcasting around the world today thanks to ESPN and ABC. Just as sports is a unifier, so too is music. Wherever I go music helps me break down barriers between cultures, countries, and stereotypes. Music heals. Sports does the same. Much like Special Olympics is for Athletes, Live Art is an inclusive program for performing artists. Now in its 5th year, Live Art has been embraced by greater Richmond, Virginia and has touched thousand of lives – from our students, to their families, to our many volunteers, to our special guest stars, to our very lucky audiences. This year’s Live Art performance will take place on June 11th in Richmond, VA and feature a very special reunion with Colbie Caillat and myself, plus Ben Lee, Josh Radnor, Paul Williams, Justin Willman, and Rob Thomas! You don’t want to miss it! Meanwhile – enjoy the opening ceremony of the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games today at 2pm ET/11am PT. #Austria2017
