last night i had dinner with some doctors and scientists and nobel laureates, all of whom are working on helping people to live longer and happier lives. it was an interesting night, equally inspiring and frustrating. inspiring because some of the brightest people on the planet are working tirelessly on the issues of life extension and human health. frustrating because there seems to be almost no interest in solutions that can't be monetized or turned into tenure or prestigious awards. the question kept coming up: how can the medical and scientific communities better deal with the issues of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and helping people to live longer lives? and i kept thinking: veganism, veganism, veganism, and veganism. based on mountains of research from countless universities and health organizations: a healthy vegan diet can reduce most types of diabetes by over 75%, can reduce heart disease by over 75%, can reduce many forms of cancer by up to 75%, and can help people live longer, happier, healthier lives. and it doesn't involve technology or medicine, it involves whole, organic foods that cost very little. of course other lifestyle changes, exercise, sleep, avoiding toxins, community, optimism can all have profound health benefits. but the benefits of a plant based, whole foods diet are stunning, and largely overlooked. overlooked because they don't generate profits, huge grants, or nobel prizes. i mean, no one's going to win a nobel prize by saying 'oh, black beans and broccoli are really good for you'. but black beans, broccolli, berries, garlic, ginger, nuts, vegetables, etc, aren't just good for you, they're magic.. they can help to epigenetically re-program your genes, essentially turning off switches that lead to sickness and cancer. plant foods clean your blood, clean and balance your gastro-intestinal canal, lengthen and protect telomeres, stave off dementia, etc etc. and they don't have side effects(except for losing unwanted weight). again, the work that these doctors and scientists and laureates are doing is noble and inspiring. but to avoid easy, healthy, inexpensive vegan solutions seems absurd.

last night i had dinner with some doctors and scientists and nobel laureates, all of whom are working on helping people to
live longer and happier lives.
it was an interesting night, equally inspiring and frustrating.
inspiring because some of the brightest people on the planet are working tirelessly on the issues of life extension
and human health.
frustrating because there seems to be almost no interest in solutions that can't be monetized or turned into
tenure or prestigious awards.
the question kept coming up: how can the medical and scientific communities better deal with the issues
of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and helping people to live longer lives?
and i kept thinking: veganism, veganism, veganism, and veganism.
based on mountains of research from countless universities and health organizations: a healthy vegan diet can reduce most types of diabetes by over 75%, can reduce heart disease by over 75%, can
reduce many forms of cancer by up to 75%, and can help people live longer, happier, healthier lives.
and it doesn't involve technology or medicine, it involves whole, organic foods that cost very little.
of course other lifestyle changes, exercise, sleep, avoiding toxins, community, optimism
can all have profound health benefits.
but the benefits of a plant based, whole foods diet are stunning, and largely overlooked.
overlooked because they don't generate profits, huge grants, or nobel prizes.
