This weekend, the network for women working in the visual arts, @margueritelondon is taking over our instagram with some of the women in the arts that it finds most inspiring to celebrate the impending International Women’s Day! First up is its namesake, one of the most significant art patrons of the 20th Century, Marguerite “Peggy” Guggenheim. “As well as the way she championed young artists, what really draws us to Peggy is her eccentricity and the way she embraced life. She famously had 1000+ lovers and used to sunbathe in the nude on the roof of her Venetian palazzo. And those glasses! What a woman. We strive to uphold Peggy’s confidence, ambition and vigour - her fearlessness and her recognition of the importance of surrounding yourself with fabulous, intelligent people to expand your own knowledge and network.” #internationalwomensday
