Because he’s an Angora, Wally (@ウォーリー) grows wool that requires constant maintenance. While Angora wool grows to be very long, I’ve chosen to keep Wally’s coat trimmed. (And from time to time, adorned with a stylish mohawk.) When I first got Wally, he was a giant puff of long wool. Grooming was extremely stressful for him and I couldn’t prevent matting. I clipped down his entire coat with the intention of learning to groom him more effectively as the wool gradually grew back. When Wally first looked at his new haircut in the mirror, he asked me why Prince Charming hadn’t called before showing up for a visit. Aside from the apparent aesthetic benefits, short wool proved to be significantly less stressful for Wally. Regardless of length, however, all Angoras are high maintenance pets. Even when I’m not sculpting a mohawk, grooming takes a great deal of time and patience.
