If you’re seeking an adventure, I have a suggestion for you: Set sail from the coast of Portugal and let three days of endless ocean sweep past you. After the third night your vessel will bring you to a group of forgotten islands. Seek the largest island of the nine and climb ashore the sand. Set your feet towards the setting sun and in the distance you’ll see a volcano whose shadow creeps over the emerald island. When you arrive at the dormant giant, scramble up it’s jagged edges until you feel the clouds float through your hair. At the top take a moment to steady yourself before you peer down into the crater. You’ll see a lake, but unlike any other lake, one half is blue and one half is green. Welcome intrepid traveller, you’ve arrived at Lagoa das Sete Cidades on São Miguel in the Azores. Or you can just take a two hour plane ride from Lisbon and catch a very reasonably priced taxi up the volcano- I'm just giving you options! Huge thanks to @princesscruises for bringing me here- I didn't know what to expect from here but this place is the very definition of a hidden gem for me.
