[@bpatrickflynn] Something you may or may not have noticed in HGTV Dream Home 2017 is the heavy use of opposing textures in each and every room in the house. One of the strongest mixes of opposites is in the breakfast nook: coarse rattan chairs, matte gray-stained pedestal table, shiny industrial metal halo chandelier, fluffy maidenhair ferns, chalky wide plank wood floors, and super rich leather-wrapped bronze cabinet hardware. The curated mix of textures is used to create 'visual tension', a decorating trick which gives rooms depth and keeps them from looking and/or feeling flat.
