Besides being an excellent observer, #Darwin was also a skilled dissector. To better understand variations in a species he set up a pigeon aviary at his home, #DownHouse, and became a breeder of fancy #pigeons. He compared the skeletal anatomy of different breeds, looking for similarities that might show their relationship to the rock dove. Boiling the flesh off carcasses he found that " when I took the body out of the water the smell was so dreadful that it made me retch awfully", the above specimen is a dragon recorded in hand writing. #Evolution #evolutionarybiology
