Check out Duncan's amazing adoption story: "My first dog, an adorable chihuahua-terrier mix named Clayton, passed away in December 2009. Around the corner from my apartment is a house that has honeysuckles that would bloom for a week, maybe two, at some point every spring. I always loved when I would walk Clayton past the bushes and, without warning, catch a whiff of honeysuckle sometime in May. The scent of honeysuckle reminds me of camping as a child with my family in Cape May, NJ; the campground had abundant honeysuckle, the scent permeating the air. Walking Clayton by the honeysuckle in the spring gave me a welcome boost, knowing warm weather was on its way. I always looked forward to catching the scent and seeing the blossoms without notice. Since Clayton died, I haven't once experienced that lovely aroma because I had no reason to walk past the home. That is, until May 20, 2016, when, while looping my 'hood with my dog Duncan — an 8-year-old maltipoo I adopted in April 2016 — I caught the tell-tale scent of honeysuckle. No kidding: I literally jerked my head to the left, and there they were. Memories and a feeing of rejuvenation flooded me. Weird, I know, but it was one of those annual rituals with Clayton that I could count on. I spent a couple minutes sniffing the refreshing flowers — and, good doggie, Duncan left his own mark on the lower leaves. When we were done, I steered Duncan away, knowing they'd be gone in a couple short weeks — but also knowing they'd greet me again next year (and many more after that) because of a certain adorable little beast who had entered my life just weeks prior. (FYI, It's my understanding that Duncan's previous owner was homeless and had to give him up to go to a shelter.) Looking forward to many more springs with you, Duncan." .
