I have been so fortunate over the last couple years to travel more than I could have expected. I have learned more about people, culture, and history by leaving my city, state, and country than I did by sitting in a classroom reading about it. I wish everyone was given the opportunity to travel. You can learn worlds of invaluable information by experiencing what you didn’t grow up around. Seeing how people live happily and comfortably in different climates, societies, and economies. People are people, everywhere! It’s sometimes hard to make sense of what you don’t know and can’t see, but just because it’s unknown doesn’t mean it’s wrong or bad or less than your own. I am also so thankful for the internet, making it more possible than ever to be in touch and form lasting friendships with people from all over. Even if you can’t travel, you have a window to a world that isn’t your own - use it! Opening up to new relationships and connections helps us understand, and be more empathetic; it helps us care. Spending time living in a foreign country inspired me to open my eyes to new things, it inspired me to create art, it inspired me to be better.
