"[My initial auditions were] brutal. It’s like you’ve got the plague. I’d get dressed up and go to some audition in the Valley, and there’d be, like, 100 girls, all with their hair curled and short skirts on and tank tops and heels…and then you went inside to audition, and it was just a group of men behind the table. The idea is that you’re supposed to pay your dues doing these kinds of films in which the girl is a thankless, thoughtless, underwritten character.
