In February of 1960, four black students sat at a Woolworth’s lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina. When they were denied service, they refused to leave. They returned the next day with 15 others, and a third day with 300 more. Their quiet protest grew into nationwide sit-ins, helping launch the #civilrights movement and leading to the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
