'The founding fathers of digital photography as we know it and enjoy today'

Today The Princess Royal joined @QEPrize as they announced the winners of The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering #QEPrize2017.

Eric Fossum, George Smith, Nobukazu Teranishi and Michael Tompsett are the engineers behind digital imaging sensors which enable us to keep hundreds of thousands of photos on a microchip the size of a fingernail.

Without them, we could not enjoy @Instagram, @snapchat or be able to share photos...and we wouldn't be able to see NASA live stream from Mars or see cancers inside the body.

We use their technology over 3 billion times a day.
