Jon Hendricks & I started out paying our dues together in NY in front of the Brill Building...where we’d hang out & try to sell our songs. He was a pioneer in every sense of the word & remains the absolute king of lyricists!…I mean, he personalized all of the great jazz songs and took them to the top…Vocalese. So the fact that he began lyricising Miles Davis & Gil Evans' album, “Miles Ahead,” back in the 60’s and it's finally being premiered publicly (in NY), just makes my soul smile!!
