A portrait of a special place, Machu Picchu. I was able to be in the park over night, which was a very special day for me. Traveling to dozens of amazing locations while working on nearly forty assignments for @NAtGeo. I have been lucky to meet several people along the way who have helped me take my work to a higher level and allowed me to experience 70 different countries. I'm currently taking applications for a workshop that will focus on the tools that I have applied to work for National Magazines on a variety of jobs. The workshop March 9-12th, will be held in my Brooklyn based studio and will feature excellent guest photographers and editors. I have received several very nice portfolios and will be accepting applications until Feb.10th. More details at www.tentonstudio.com/workshop. The history of Machu Picchu is fascinating, dating from the 15th-century as a Inca citadel situated on a mountain ridge 2,430 metres (7,970 ft) above sea level. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472). The Incas built the estate around 1450 but abandoned it a century later at the time of the Spanish Conquest. Although known locally, it was not known to the Spanish during the colonial period and remained unknown to the outside world until American historian Hiram Bingham brought it to international attention in 1911. #MachuPicchu #Inca
