Hi everyone! This week's #AskCeci comes from @bigdayessentials and @candacepaints (and many others as it's been the most popular question to date) Q: When did you know to take the leap to start your own business? A: I've always been an entrepreneur even before I really officially was one. Whether I was selling lemonade as a kid to my neighbors, or designing invitations on the side of my full time design job, I was always working hard trying to make my dreams a reality. To be honest, I never really set out to start my own business, it just sort of happened. Designing invitations was a passion "after hours" project but after many people telling me "you should really do this, there is no one like you out there doing what you can do" I started to really pay attention. I studied the industry and realized they were right. It gave me the courage to try and go for it. But the pivotal factor that helped me the most was when Alan (my-boyfriend-now-husband) sat me down and asked "So, I see you're really busy, but are you making any money?" He then taught me the importance of a sales plan. Ultimately, love doesn't pay the bills, so you need to break down your expenses and desired salary you want to make and do the math to ensure you can afford taking the risk. By creating a plan you can then get a hold of what you need to make and then see if you can actually make it happen. The rest is up to you, your passion, your drive and how much sweat equity you're willing to put into it. Ultimately, you have to remember that if it was easy, then everyone would be doing it. I'll be the first to tell you, it's not easy. But with a lot of passion, desire, dedication and a willingness not to give up, you can make your dreams come true. Now it's your turn. I'd love to hear from you, so leave a comment and introduce yourself. Tell me how you got started or what's holding you back or ask me anything you want to, in business, design, life, parenting...I'll pick one for next week's question! ?XxCeci #mydesignlife #designer #creator #womeninbusiness #businessadvice #entrepreneur #girlboss #inspiration #inspirationiseverywhere #cecinewyork #cecijohnson // photo by @weddedwonderland
