#MovementMondays This is Kamala Harris, an American attorney and politician who is the United States Senator from California. She is a member of the Democratic Party and served as the 32nd Attorney General of California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She is the daughter of an Indian-American mother, Dr. Shyamala Gopalan Harris, a breast cancer specialist, who immigrated from Chennai, India, in 1960, and a Jamaican-American father, Donald Harris, a Stanford University economics professor. Harris was elected California's Attorney General in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. Harris was the first woman, the first Jamaican-American, the first Asian-American and the first Indian American attorney general in California.
On November 8, 2016, she replaced outgoing Democratic senator Barbara Boxer, becoming the second black woman and first Indian American elected to serve in the United States Senate.
With this past weekends incredible turn out at the Women's March it is vital we have women like Kamala Harris in government fighting for Women's rights.
