HT: Aston Villa 2-0 Preston North End - Albert Adomah was on target twice to put Villa in control against Preston at Villa Park. The winger opened the scoring in the 22nd minute and increased the lead with a 35th-minute penalty After Gabby Agonlahor had fired just wide from Jordan Amavi’s low cross, Andre Green had the perfect opportunity to mark his first Championship start with a goal. The youngster looked a certain scorer when Agbonlahor hooked the ball across the face of goal in the 12th minute but his glancing header flashed just past the post. Villa were ahead, though, when Jack Grealish lifted an inviting pass into the penalty area for Agbonlahor to charge in on goal. The striker collided with keeper Chris Maxwell but the ball ran loose, Adomah providing the finishing touch right on the line. As Steve Bruce’s men maintained the pressure, Ashley Westwood fired just over from 20 yards and Agbonlahor’s close range header from another Amvi cross deflected for a corner. But the lead was doubled when Adomah was tripped by Aiden McGeady as he moved onto an Amavi pass.
