According to AJC News, “Obama brought his total number of commutations granted to 1,715, more than any other president in U.S. history…”. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Obama only gave the golden tickets to inmates who had served at least 10 years, had little to no incidents while incarcerated, and they must have been nonviolent offenders. Neil Eggleston, Obama’s White House counsel said in an interview, “The ones who really stuck home for the president and me are the ones who got their GED, they worked, they took courses in anger management, they took courses in getting over drug abuse issues, they remained in contract with their families.” ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Bernard Smith was given a 22-year sentence in 2002 when he was arrested for selling marijuana and cocaine, which actually belonged to his brother, to undercover officers. Regardless of the fact that the bulk of the drugs that Smith and his brother were selling did not belong to him, he was charged with a cocaine offense as well.
