Young D at 16 in High School. I miss my old Alvin Ailey days. These were the best years of my life. I'm actually really blessed that I was so dedicated and determined to make it no matter the circumstance. If I wasn't so focused at this age I wouldn't be where i am today.
I grew up thinking i would be in a Modern dance company and in the technical world. The technical world wasn't so welcoming for my mouth and I, so I had to change routes. I remember going to BDC when classes were $11 (?Jam) to take the amazing ??@rhapsodyjames class on sundays cuz I hated crowds. In those days people weren't very welcoming. To be honest, even people who i currently know and love didn't lend a helping hand. The only ones who were kind enough to talk to me were @JONTE’ and @yeahimfamous. Before being a booked queen I was a cut queen. I auditioned twice for the agency I'm with now and got cut. Nothing was handed to me....I worked and worked until people couldn't deny my talent.
I know what it's like to have teachers not want the best for you. I also know what it's like to be pushed beyond your limits by teachers who care about your future. Whether I received tough love or no Love at all from teachers during my youth, I held on to those memories and I'm giving my all to share the best lessons without the discouragement.
It doesn't matter how amazing or inexperienced you are, keep working on what you know you're capable of. I've been known for sharing my brutally honest opinion, and to the weak minded it seems like I can be discouraging. I've just been through so much in my dance career it's hard to hurt my feelings and I tend to forget not everyone has my tough skin. Trust me I'm not apologizing nor do I need to explain myself, I'm just giving some insight on why Danielle is the way she is.
