How a human can sell another human baffles my intricate mind in a way I cannot seem to unravel.
But we do it every day, do we not? And I'm not just speaking of the traffickers with 45.6M beautiful souls like this little angel in my arms. I'm talking about every single one of us.
A starving girl or boy who's been hungry one too many times, abused and hit in the face too many times, witnessed loss or death due to poverty one too many times... What does it take to break the psyche of a human being to the point they no longer see their fellow men and women as humans like them but commodities to be also abused, hit in the face and then sold to the highest bidder?
The western world may scoff, but I dare you... I dare you to look inside yourself. When have you, too, sold a person? Yourself? Another?
In my life I know I have. I would have sold my body for an ounce of love, because I felt so unlovable. I have worked for establishments who have literally "owned" me and questioned the integrity of who I was in the world every single day that I got up and went to work. I have witnessed the lengths the corporate world, the sports world, Hollywood, organized institutions with archaic belief systems, universities and schools, even well-intentioned parents will go to sell a soul.
Every moment spent going against an individual and those very unique and beautiful attributes which make them individual aiming to see them conform in some capacity is a moment spent in spiritual support of the enslavement, bondage, selling of a person's rights (ourselves included). As #HumanTraffickingAwareness day comes to a close, I want to stand in solidarity with all those around the world whose physical rights are removed as they are sold into slavery. And to those involved in mental bondage whether victim or perpetrator, I dare you... I dare you to set yourselves free. Action follows perception. Change your outlook, unlock your soul and choose today to no longer live against yourself or others. It all starts with intent.
