Goodnight, Tokyo. I ran out of clothes and bought this dress here. Paid full taxes on it too, felt great- ya know, to be a non citizen but to support an economy over and above the money I was already spending. The lady said if I had my passport I didn't have to pay taxes. I was like "look at my face and listen to my voice, I'm obviously not Japanese... give me the discount." She said no. I thanked her anyway, which was super Japanese of me. Also? Only an idiot carries their passport around with them. Great way to get munsoned out in the middle of a country. Unless you're tight with your embassy or your hotel is garbage trash, don't walk around with your only way home in your bag.
