As part of the new @gymshark homecoming campaign, we're supposed to tell you why we started all this jazz in the first place.
I've been thinking about it a lot today (and the last few weeks) trying to dig real deep into the depths of the actual "why". It all really comes down to this gal right here: 13 year old Nikki, (or my younger self anyway.) As a kid, I always dreamed I'd do something significant and really make an impact. I wanted to be the hero in an epic tale of "The Saga of Nikki Blackketter". I was a dreamer & I had high expectations for myself.
But things don't always go to plan, and I grew up a little, and got lost a lot...
When I started focusing on my health and fitness, I was at a very low point of my life. I was working 3-4 part time jobs, I wasn't in school, I was tired, depressed, and numb every single day. Literally the first time I tried a weight lifting routine, it lit a little spark in me. Those endorphins were addicting, they shined a light in my dull days. I saw a path finally, after stumbling around in the dark for so long. I didn't intend for it all to go this direction in the beginning, but I am so grateful and fortunate for it to have come so far. I cannot wait to see what the next year brings for us all! Cheers to 2017 and being the hero to your story. #RememberWhyYouStarted
