I've been blessed to grow up with friends and family of many faiths. Years ago we started a tradition of a non-denominational Shabbat. All are welcome. Everyone takes a night off to break bread and reconnect.

Last night's Shabbat fell on the 5th night of Kwanzaa, called Nia which means purpose. Our soul-sister Nia led us in a candle lighting and prayer. Our friend Sophia made the Challah, and led us through the blessing of the bread. Ryan blessed the wine. And we all shared stories of our families and traditions. We ate too much and laughed for hours. We talked about lessons and hardships and love and adventures. Phones stayed on airplane mode, and it was a welcome respite.
