When the sky turns to fire ? I posted a different shot tonight but took it down because Instagram's new algorithm was deciding most of my followers wouldn't want to see it and the shot was special enough to me that I wanted the people who follow me to take a look so I'll try again tomorrow ... for those of you who are as confused about how Instagram's new algorithm works as I was before talking to my friend at facebook ... I figure I'd share this insight ... it's simple as if your posts step outside of what the majority of people are following you for and those people don't engage with those posts the algorithm figures those people won't want to see your next posts ... the bad thing is what if they do though? the more you post what the majority of your followers don't engage with the less of your total follower base Instagram allows you to reach ... unfortunately this puts us in a box where you can't really freely post creatively or personally something that you want to share if it isn't within the confines of what the majority of people are following you for without Instagram deciding for them they probably don't want to see your content even though they follow you ... for instance the year my Mom had cancer I couldn't shoot much ocean related content so I posted a lot of skateboarding because that's what I could shoot ... because people who aren't interested in skateboarding didn't engage with those posts it stopped showing them my content ... this has also happened to friends who share amazing imagery but also like to share pictures of their kids or diversified content which was outside the norm of what the majority follow them for ... anyways ... just thought I'd share for all my friends who are wondering why their account has gotten screwed up and why others don't seem as effected ... if you pay attention to the accounts that aren't effected you'll notice they rarely if ever step outside the box ... how you respond is up to you ... I'm thinking I might just say fuck it and post whatever I want because I don't want to be stuck in a box ??? #GoPro #Hero5
