Profound gratitude to our #firstnations brothers & sisters for their leadership & courage. Thank you for teaching us to peacefully fight, love and protect Itom Ae, #MotherEarth. ?✨???✨ I leave you all w/ the beautiful words of my Yaqui brother @tomaskarmelo: ?"This is a moment to celebrate! Thank you to the people of Standing Rock Sioux Tribe for being leaders and an exemplary Native nation. To the indigenous journalists like Chelsey Luger who brought the cause to text. To all the youth, the young runners, who made great sacrifices to bring awareness to this universal cause. To the organizations like the Indigenous Environmental Network that mobilized thousands of people to support the struggle. S/O specifically to Tom Goldtooth, @dallasgoldtooth, Kandi Mossett. To all the Indigenous nations who stood and continue to stand in solidarity. To all the land and water protectors, who put their bodies, lives, wallets, and sanity on the line! Big S/O to my extremely talented and soulful indigenous brother @josue_foto, who has beautifully documented the movement w/ cultural sensitivity & Native perspective. Thank you for all the moments of prayer and ceremony, all the transformations of character, all the displays of familial love, all the new connections to fellow truth seekers and lovers of life, all the beginnings of romance, all the stories and jokes, all the meals prepared with love in makeshift kitchens, all the games played by little warriors, all our four legged relatives that stand with us, all the musicians and poets who sing songs of freedom, all the medics & healers who work through the night, all teachers & facilitators who bring knowledge and wisdom, all the techies and nerds, all the filmmakers, photogs, & drone ops, all the builders and craftsmen, and most importantly all the women who lead us with their wisdom and medicine. Ending in the words of Maya Angelou from 'Still I Rise': "...Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise. I rise. I rise." We are rising my beloved brothers and sisters of the world who understand the sacredness of water and life"? #NoDAPL #WaterIsLife #standingrock #DefendTheSacred
