Ever seen a Louis Vuitton toothbrush? If the answer is no, clearly you haven’t been visiting Ava Nirui’s Instagram, @avanope. The 25-year-old Australian, who now calls New York home, creates unique takes on coveted designer logos, giving them a whole new spin. “My Instagram is a collection of absurd objects or clothing I have made which reference iconic luxury brands,” Ava says. “I like taking items out of their original context and giving them new value or meaning through the addition of powerful graphics, logos, and/or text.”
She cites icons as wide ranging as Cam’ron, ‘Sex and the City,’ Gucci’s Alessandro Michele, and her mom for inspiring her customization work, which started a little over a year ago. “Even though I genuinely appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into luxury brand products, particularly bags and accessories, I think it's absurd how much money people spend on unnecessary items,” Ava says.
