This huge piece of Styrofoam is floating in the coral reef around Midway Atoll, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. As it breaks apart, it turns the water around it into a white soup of pellets that may be eaten by birds and fish. But plastic can't be digested, and doesn't disappear - it stays in the food chain, killing animals and damaging the environment. And the harm it does to animals may be even more concentrated in humans.
