Meet @DSWT’s latest arrival – this is Karisa, his poignant story is full of sadness and hope.

Last Wednesday, the DSWT had the heart breaking task of rescuing a baby elephant from Karisia Forest in Northern Kenya, whose mother had a shattered leg caused by a bullet. In a horrendous case of human-wildlife conflict, she was completely unable to move and seemingly being protected by her two-year-old calf, who stood vigil by her side. Following the difficult decision to euthanize the mother, the team quickly transported the young calf to their Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi National Park to receive reassurance and love from other elephant orphans and Keepers.

Karisa’s story represents the reality of human-wildlife conflict across much of Africa today. Thankfully the team were on hand to rescue the calf and provide him with a second chance at life. Keep updated on Karisa’s progress: thedswt.org #ElephantTales
