This is the current hot spot on #Morocco’s tourist trail: #Chefchaouen, or #Chaouen for short. But it’s not the stunning mountains or fortress people come to see – it’s the #color. Houses, buildings, lampposts and more are covered in a vibrant #blue rinse. The custom dates back to the 15th century, when Jewish refugees fleeing the Spanish Inquisition brought with them their tradition of painting things blue to mirror the sky and remind them of God.
